The FPB is delighted by the resounding success of the second Small Firms' Summit on Wednesday 17 October and would like to thank everyone who helped us to deliver this important and worthwhile day.
The event, sponsored by Barclays, saw over 160 guests gather in the prestigious Central Hall, Westminster, for an eclectic programme of speakers and discussions. Hot topics on the agenda included regulation and red tape, education, skills, the Chancellor's Pre-Budget Review and equality at work.
The morning's speakers were Steven Cooper of Barclays, Adam Afriyie MP, and Anne Weinstock CBE from the Department of Children, Schools and Families. Jim Hancock led lively discussions where participants voiced their opinions, shared common problems and searched for solutions.
A charity auction for the Children's Cancer and Leukaemia Group (CCLG) was conducted by Peter Ashburner, from Cash in the Attic, Bargain Hunt and Flog It. A total of £1,705 was raised for this worthy cause.
The afternoon began with an air of excitement as our keynote speaker, the Rt Hon Charles Clarke MP tackled the controversial issue of economic stability for small firms. Janet Shelley MBE, the founder of Women Builders and Alex Pratt OBE, a serial entrepreneur and director of Serious Readers, were part of a lively afternoon.
This enjoyable and worthwhile day was rounded off with a reception hosted by Andy Love MP, Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Small Business Group. We were pleased to be joined by Members of Parliament.
