The directors of a few really big businesses, trade unions and public corporations in the UK take no personal risk and yet they have enormous political clout.
Britain's 1.2 million private employers take enormous personal risk and yet – despite creating two-thirds of private sector employment and half of private GDP – have little political say.
This imbalance is not only unfair to private businesses, but it is unfair to the economy. With your support, the FPB aims to redress the balance.
We have a track record of success in areas such as:
-
Banking
-
Taxation
-
Employment regulations
-
Unfair competition
-
Late payment
But the need for a unified voice for private businesses remains as strong as ever.
The FPB aims to provide an effective framework for campaigning, but the strength of our voice depends on our members' participation. We understand that lobbying will seldom, if ever, be your top priority, so we provide a range of practical ways in which to let you have your say.
ReferendumEvery quarter, we ask for your views on three key issues. Your opinions provide our mandate to act. And your comments go to your MP, MEPs, and, in Scotland and Wales, to your MSPs and AMs, respectively.
Quarterly survey
You are likely to be asked once a year to participate in our quarterly survey. This survey tracks changes in member opinion and provides our main lobbying ammunition.
Periodic/ad hoc surveys We occasionally do more detailed work, such as our biennial bank survey. On a more regular basis, we carry out ad hoc surveys, generally via email.
Member panels Members with knowledge and experience of specific issues are invaluable to us. We will try to keep you up to date on policy developments in the specified area and we will not ask you to contribute more than you are comfortable with.
Media work
Having a strong media presence is important to the success of our campaigns. The media wants to hear the views of individual business owners, so whether it is agreeing a quote to go in a press release, speaking to a journalist or appearing on television, we would be delighted to hear from you.
